Musings on 'Never Mind the Mind' of Ramana Maharshi

The only burden that we have is the mind. Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi asks one to "Never mind the mind". This saying (Talks - 97) of Bhagavan Ramana is popular among devotees. The conversation between Bhagavan Ramana and the devotee goes thus: D.: How to control the mind?  M.: What is mind? Whose is the mind?  D.: Mind always wanders. I cannot control it.  M.: It is the nature of the mind to wander. You are not the mind. The mind springs up and sinks down. It is impermanent, transitory, whereas you are eternal. There is nothing but the Self. To inhere in the Self is the thing. Never mind the mind. If its source is sought, it will vanish leaving the Self unaffected. D.: So one need not seek to control the mind?  M.: There is no mind to control if you realise the Self. The mind vanishing, the Self shines forth. About Miracles - A Different Outlook!

Om Namo Bhagavate Shri Ramanaya! The womb of miracles is Grace, which is none other than the Self. Miracles here, may be defined as not the glaring ones as in Physic powers, Clairvoyance or materialising objects etc that bears the stamp of doership. They are simply divine interference in day to day life that are too very natural, and could often escape from even an alert eye. Such were those which took place in the presence of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. Any ardent seeker's life is peppered with miracles or divine interference. There are two common outlooks towards miracles. While most intellectual seekers on the path of Self realization often have a self imposed indifferent attitude towards miracles, seekers on the path of bakti or devotion often get lost in miraculous happenings. The Fear of Death - Inspirations from day to day life.

Bhagavan Ramana roots out the fear of death in a seeker by a simple sentence carrying the import of the Master's teaching that he happens to read on death... "மரணபயம் மனசுக்குத்தான்.  அழிவற்ற ஆத்மஸ்வரூபமான 'தனக்கில்லை' என்றுணர்." - Baskaran.M  The translation of the words go thus, "Realise that the fear of death is experienced by the mind and not by the Atman which is indestructible and eternal." Moved by the Master's Grace, the seeker pens a petite poem.....
